Volunteer Spotlight, June 2012

Honoring Suzanne Jacques

Volunteer Suzanne 5 inch

This month, we would like to shine our spotlight on Suzanne Jacques, a volunteer dog walker from our Westport Shelter.

A lover of all animals, Suzanne began volunteering for CT Humane in January 2010.  Suzanne intended to make the standard 6-month volunteer commitment but found that she loved the work so much that she decided to remain in the program.  She has become one of our most enthusiastic team members.

Suzanne comes in every Tuesday morning to walk our dogs and give them some time in the sun.  Always the team player, Suzanne consistently offers to cover the shifts of volunteers that need time off.  And she never leaves the shelter without making sure that the dogs have all had enough time to get the “wiggles” out of their system.

Suzanne’s favorite part of volunteering at the shelter is seeing our “senior” animals get adopted.  She knows that despite the fact that they need the most love, they often get overlooked because of their age.  When they finally go home she is overjoyed to know that they have found their forever family.  And she feels a sense of accomplishment knowing that she helped make their time at CT Humane as comfortable as possible.

Suzanne always looks for opportunities to advance her skills by learning more about our animals, and the care they need.  She also participates in any additional volunteer training that is offered by the staff at the shelter.

When she’s not volunteering, Suzanne enjoys hiking, camping, and any other outdoor activity she can share with her dogs.  Her family includes two dogs, two cats, and two turtles.  Suzanne has also owned and showed ferrets in the past.  Suzanne has made a lot of great friends here at the Westport shelter and we are lucky to have her as a member of our volunteer team.

Suzanne - thank you for your time, compassion and generosity…
…From your friends at the Connecticut Humane Society.
