CURRENT VOLUNTEER NEEDS, UPDATED 8/19/2010
NEWINGTON SHELTER VOLUNTEER NEEDS:
FOSTER CARE: Volunteers are needed to temporarily care for animals in their own homes until they are ready for adoption. Foster Care volunteers provide individualized care and socialization for some of our most needy shelter animals, including infant puppies and kittens, pregnant animals, animals recovering from surgery or illness, and animals that require minor behavior modification and/or socialization. The Newington shelter is specifically in need of volunteers that can foster orphaned kittens and puppies that need to be bottle-fed, and volunteers that are willing to foster adult cats and dogs with medical or behavioral issues.The Connecticut Humane Society will provide basic supplies and veterinary care for the foster animal(s) during their foster period. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old to apply for this position, but children may participate with their families. Foster Care volunteers must attend a training/orientation, must be able to comply with our Foster Care policies, must be able to keep foster animals separate from owned pets, must have reliable transportation, and must provide proof of active health insurance, a valid driver's license, auto insurance, and homeowner's or renter's insurance. Renters must also provide a letter from their landlord stating that they are allowed to have pets. To apply for this position, please complete the Newington Volunteer Application.
LAUNDRY ROOM VOLUNTEERS: Volunteers are needed to assist with washing and folding laundry and washing dishes Tuesday and Wednesday mornings from 9:30-12:30. Volunteers that apply for this position must be at least 18 years old, must have proof of active health insurance, and must be in good physical condition. Volunteers selected for this position must attend an orientation and training, and must be able to comply with all of our shelter policies. Volunteers must be able to commit to this program for a minimum of six months on a set-schedule. To apply for this position, please complete the Newington Volunteer Application.
WATERFORD SHELTER VOLUNTEER NEEDS:
FOSTER CARE: Volunteers are needed to temporarily care for animals in their own homes until they are ready for adoption. The Waterford shelter is specifically in need of volunteers that can foster pregnant cats and nursing cats with their kittens. The Connecticut Humane Society will provide basic supplies and veterinary care for the foster animal(s) during their foster period. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old to apply for this position, but children may participate with their families. Foster Care volunteers must attend a training/orientation, must be able to comply with our Foster Care policies, must be able to keep foster animals separate from owned pets, must have reliable transportation, and must provide proof of active health insurance, a valid driver's license, auto insurance, and homeowner's or renter's insurance. WESTPORT SHELTER VOLUNTEER NEEDS:
FOSTER CARE: Volunteers are needed to temporarily care for animals in their own homes until they are ready for adoption. The Westport shelter is especially in need of foster volunteers that have experience with infant animals, or are willing to be trained, and volunteers that are willing to foster adult animals. Foster Care volunteers provide individualized care and socialization for some of our most needy shelter animals, including infant puppies and kittens, pregnant animals, animals recovering from surgery or illness, and animals that require minor behavior modification and/or socialization. The Connecticut Humane Society will provide basic supplies and veterinary care for the foster animal(s) during their foster period. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES FOR KIDS:
Most of our volunteer opportunities do have a minimum age requirement of 18 or older. Children are always encouraged to support CT Humane by arranging a supply collection or a fundraiser to benefit the animals. For a complete list of supplies that we accept, please view our Wish List.
