NEW CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Driver/Transportation Coordinator

The Connecticut Humane Society has an immediate F/T opening for a dedicated individual who is committed to achieving the Society’s primary mission of helping homeless pets.  This full-time position is based in Newington and will be responsible as the primary operator for all the Society vehicles in Newington including the Society’s 40-foot Mobile Adoption Center (MAC) and the Society’s Disaster Response trailer.  This position will act as the primary driver for interstate animal transport and will perform transport of animals and/or supplies to and from all other CT Humane in-state facility locations as needed. This position is responsible for the maintenance and oversight of all the Society vehicles in Newington and the district locations.  This will involve all aspects of vehicle care and compliance.  This position will be trained to function in a humane education/customer service capacity in order to facilitate the smooth functioning of all events for which the MAC is scheduled to appear.  This position will always strive to positively represent the Connecticut Humane Society at all events and in transportation situations both local and out of state. This position will require flexibility with scheduling.  The position will report to the District Manager/Behavior and Rescue Manager in Newington.

Education Required:     
High school or college graduate; good driving record. Class B Commercial Driver’s License a plus.

Experience Required:  
Knowledge of animal handling and care, successful completion of bus driver orientation on vehicle operation, maintenance and safe handling techniques.

Animal Care Team Member with Driver Responsibilities

The Connecticut Humane Society has one immediate F/T opening for a dedicated individual who are committed to achieving the Society’s primary mission of helping homeless pets.  This full-time position is based in Newington and will include the daily care of animals as well as working with the public to place pets into new homes.  Animal care responsibilities including but not limited to: cleaning, feeding and a heavy amount of animal handling.  An additional primary responsibility will be to provide backup duties to the Driver/Transportation Coordinator in the role of interstate animal transport. This position will require flexibility with scheduling.  This position will report to the District Manager in Newington.

High school or college graduate, valid Connecticut driver’s license and a good driving record.  Class B commercial driver’s license a plus.

Veterinary Technician, Newington

The Fox Memorial Clinic is seeking an experienced, positive, energetic, hands-on individual for an immediate full- time opening.  This position will be primarily located in the medical department of the Connecticut Humane Society’s Newington shelter with occasional assignments to the Fox Memorial Clinic. This position must understand and be capable of practicing the fundamental skills of animal medical welfare and be guided in day-to-day decision making by these principles and by the Connecticut Humane Society mission.  Primary responsibilities include assisting with the medical care and welfare of animals in the facility; assist with the examination and treatment of animals; perform clinical laboratory procedures such as fecal flotation exams, heartworm tests, urinalysis, feline leukemia tests, etc.; assist with surgical procedures including things like administering injections, placing catheters and monitoring anesthesia. 

Additional primary responsibilities include:  assisting with cleaning/feeding/walking of hospital patients, maintaining clean/sterile surgical area, complete vaccination records and invoices, and receiving/discharging patients.  The schedule will be rotational and will include some weekend days.

Education Required: 
Bachelors Degree in Animal Science or 2-3 years related experience.  Certified Veterinary Technician status preferred.

Experience Required: 
Veterinary technician experience.  This position requires moderate to heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs.) and cleaning/feeding in animal wards.  This position will also require controlling and walking dogs, cats and small animals and may require standing for extended periods of time.  Applicants must have a current, valid Connecticut Driver’s license and have/maintain a good driving record.

Overnight Bottle-Feeding Staff

The Connecticut Humane Society is seeking positive, energetic, hands-on individuals with veterinary experience for immediate openings on an Independent Contractor basis.  Primary responsibilities include providing temporary overnight care for bottle-feeding infant animals surrendered to the Connecticut Humane Society. 

Additional primary responsibilities include: pick up and delivery of animals to the Society location that the Independent Contractor is serving. (Newington, Waterford or Westport)

Parameters are as follows:
Hours of care, Monday – Friday, 5:30 pm – 8:30 am, Saturday – Sunday, 5:30 pm – 11 am, Sunday – Monday, 4 pm – 8:30 am.
Caretaker will handle a maximum of 2 bottle feeders at one time.

Compensation is as follows:
These positions will be classified as Independent Contractors and will sign a contracting agreement.  Compensation is $20 per animal per night and a $20 travel allowance for a maximum of $60 per night.

Education Required: 
High School Graduate, Certified Veterinary Technician preferred.

Experience Required: 
A minimum of one year of active employment as a veterinary technician or veterinary assistant to have taken place within the past three years.  Valid CT Driver’s license and a clean driving record.

Director, Human Resources - Newington, CT

The CT Humane Society in Newington, CT is seeking a highly skilled forward-thinking professional for this key position in our organization.  This position is based in Newington, CT but will require periodic travel to the Society locations in Waterford and Westport to facilitate team-building and excellent communication.

This is an H.R. generalist role providing overall strategic Human Resources leadership to operations of the CHS.  The Director will possess primary responsibility for the development and implementation of human resources policies, programs and services, including recruitment, selection, retention, legal compliance, employee compensation and benefits, employee relations, employment practices and procedures, employee communications, employee events, and payroll operations.  This position will serve as an internal consultant to the company management team, supervisors and employees on human resources issues that affect performance and business relationships.  The Director will foster a workplace environment consistent with the values and mission outlined by the leadership of CHS.

Required Experience:  7-10 years minimum experience in a Human Resources generalist capacity is required.   3-5 years experience managing a staff of Human Resources professionals is also required.  Hands-on experience in cross-functional HR capacities including: employee relations, recruitment and hiring is desired.
A bachelor’s degree in HR management, Psychology, or a Business related field required.  A Master’s degree is preferred.  Other professional association certifications (e.g.: SHRM) are desirable.

Required Skills:  The candidate that fills this key leadership role must have a general knowledge of the principles and practices of human resources strategic planning and administration; must be able to establish and maintain effective relationships with the B.O.D., management and employees; must have a thorough understanding of Employment Law and best practices; must be PC literate and well-versed in the use of various software such as MS Office, and HRIS.  This position also requires the ability to anticipate risks, outcomes and consequences and will develop a plan to manage through situations.  Advanced employee relations skills are imperative, as CHS has 3 locations and selected candidate will support the employees in all 3 locations.
