MICROCHIP AND PET HEALTH INSURANCE INFORMATION

At the Connecticut Humane Society, we actively promote responsible pet ownership every day.  In our ongoing efforts to provide a support system that our clients can rely on, we now proudly offer two new benefits to our adopters.

MICROCHIPPING:

All cats and dogs adopted from the Connecticut Humane Society will now receive a microchip prior to adoption.  The microchip service that we are using is 24PetWatch.


Important microchip information.


1. Every year, millions of lost pets are taken in by animal welfare groups.  Rough estimates indicate that only 14% of the dogs and 4% of the cats get reunited with their families.  This is because they have no identification.  A microchip is a permanent method of identifying your pet and linking him or her back to you.


2. Both cats and dogs benefit from microchipping.  ID tattoos fade with time and collars are useless if they fall off your pet.


3. A microchip does not hurt your pet.  It is the size of a grain of rice and is implanted by a veterinarian or trained member of the medical team.


4. The implantation of the microchip is part of your standard adoption benefits package for cats and dogs.  Registration for the first year is free.  Maintenance of your contact information on the registry beyond 12 months from the date of adoption may involve some fees.  Visit the 24PetWatch website link below for more details.


5. If your pet goes missing, call 24PetWatch at 1-866-597-2424 and choose the lost pet option.  Your contact information will be confirmed for accuracy.  As soon as your pet is found and identified, you will be connected to the rescuer so that you can be reunited.

Pet Health Insurance:


Connecticut Humane Society adopters are now eligible to receive a complimentary 30-day ShelterCare Gift Insurance Policy with any cat or dog adoption.  This coverage will assist in the health care costs that may be incurred by the a pet owner.  In order to receive this insurance, adopters must provide their email address as part of the adoption process.


Important insurance information.

1. The ShelterCare Gift Insurance Policy is for 30 days only and will expire automatically unless you choose to continue or upgrade coverage.

2. You will receive the 30 day gift of insurance upon adoption of the animal.

3. Coverage begins at 12:01 a.m. the second day after activation.  The activation date is usually the day of adoption.

4. The following health problems are covered by the ShelterCare Gift Insurance Policy:

5. Maximum coverage amount is $750 per policy.


6. Deductible is $75 per policy.


7. Illnesses that were symptomatic, noted or treated prior to the coverage effective date (the date of adoption) are not covered.


8. You can extend the gift insurance policy within 72 hours of adoption to one of the two options below:


ShelterCare for Renters Gift - 30 days of rental property coverage for damages caused by the adopted pet.
ShelterCare 45-day Gift - extend coverage to 45 days.


9. You can upgrade the ShelterCare Gift Insurance Policy within 10 days of the date of adoption and apply an $8.95 credit towards another ShelterCare Insurance Policy.


10. Your bill at the veterinarian will still need to be paid by you.  ShelterCare will reimburse you directly if your claim is accepted.


11. Making a claim is simple and easy through ShelterCare.
