Our Kids Care page was inspired by children and young adults who have asked the question: "How can we help the animals?"
The resource below is designed to help kids, parents and teachers find fun and fascinating projects that will nurture and support the desire to help pets in need.

Congratulations to Julia Padget, the winner of our "Be Kind To Animals Contest!"
"This year for "Be Kind to Animals Week" my family is going to take my dog to the Bark Park. The Bark Park is a place for dogs to run around and play with other dogs. There are 2 special areas in the Bark Park. One is for big dogs and the other is for little dogs. My dog has always been in the big dogs area. Charlie is my dogs name and he is a yellow labrador retriever. Charlie is 2 and will be 3 in June. He loves to be around other dogs and really enjoys playing. He is also super cute and has very soft fur. We got Charlie from Labs 4 Rescue. When we first got Charlie from there he was very small and now he is very big. Also, he has big brown eyes. Charlie gets the most attention in this house. He has a whole basket full of toys and he needs to be petted every second of every day. If Charlie sits next to you, you will probably get a nudge with his nose, or a paw or two if you don't pet him. I have had Charlie since I was 8 and now I'm 10. My family really loves my dog and he's an awesome companion. By bringing my dog to the Bark Park this is how my family will celebrate "Be Kind To Animals Week."

How can you help animals?
Kids, Parents, Teachers...here are some of the ways that you can get involved and help the animals at the Connecticut Humane Society who are waiting to be adopted into loving new homes.
|
Create a newsletter, flier or poster about adoptable animals.
Report animal cruelty to the local police.
Hold a bake sale for people and pets. For pet treats make sure the ingredients are safe for dogs or cats to eat.
Hold a yard sale to benefit your local Connecticut Humane Society. Ask parents, siblings, friends and neighbors to donate unwanted items to sell at your yard sale.
Throw a birthday party in honor of animals. Ask for gifts for shelter pets instead of gifts for yourself.
Organize a collection drive for towels, bedding, treats, dog and cat toys and Kuranda Beds for dogs.
Take a tour of our facilities and get a behind the scenes look at what it takes to care for the dozens of animals at CT Humane. Contact info@cthumane.org for more information.

Meet Teloulah...
Teloulah is a sweet and gentle 8-year-old girl. She is a little shy at first, so a home that includes adults and calm teenagers would be perfect for her. Teloulah wants to be the one and only pet because she loves attention. One of her favorite pastimes is relaxing outdoors with her nose to the air sniffing everything that blows in on a breeze.
For more information about Teloulah, please call the Newington branch of the CT Humane Society on 860-594-4500. You can meet Teloulah during our business hours with your family. We are open 7 days a week. Monday through Saturday, 9:30 AM - 5:30 PM and Sunday, 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM.
Teloulah would love to meet you at the Connecticut Humane Society in Newington!
