COURT-ORDERED COMMUNITY SERVICE

court-ordered community service

The Connecticut Humane Society is able to accept a limited number of applicants for our court-ordered community service program.

 

Court-ordered community service volunteers do not work hands-on with the shelter animals. Volunteers assist the staff with janitorial duties such as picking up litter and pet waste, washing floors and windows, organizing the garage, folding laundry, and other tasks as assigned.

 



Court-Ordered Community Service Volunteer Requirements

 

This program is available for individuals who:

* Must complete mandatory community service hours for the judicial system

*
Are at least 18 years old

*
Have active health insurance

*
Have reliable transportation

*
Must complete at least 50 hours of required community service

*
Have at least six months to complete their service hours

*
Are able to commit to a set schedule of at least two hours per week


Candidates for this program must provide written documentation from the court verifying the offence for which they are completing service hours, as well as the names of two non-relative professional or personal references.


This program is not available for offenders of:

*
Crimes of a violent nature

*
Crimes involving narcotics or controlled substances

*
Crimes involving animal mistreatment or abuse

*
Crimes involving theft

*Crimes of a sexual nature




The Connecticut Humane Society is not able to take on everyone who applies for this program. Selected applicants will need to attend an interview to determine eligibility for this program. All Court-Ordered Community Service volunteers are required to abide by all policies of the Connecticut Humane Society. The Society has the right to dismiss a volunteer from service at any time. Volunteers that successfully complete their service hours will be given a verification letter for court.
