Ways to Give

The Connecticut Humane Society is a private, not-for-profit organization. It is not affiliated with any other humane organizations or groups and does not receive any state or federal funding. This makes your gift even more special. We greatly appreciate your donation on behalf of the thousands of homeless animals that are in need of care.

The financial help received from concerned friends like you, in part, enables us to provide placement services, veterinary care, food, shelter and spay/neuter services to the shelter pets on a continuing basis.

Connecticut Humane Society is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation and your donation is fully tax-deductible to the amount allowed by law. The email receipt you receive after making a donation meets all the IRS requirements as a record of donation.

#ShareforShelters

We are joining Bayer Animal Health in the second annual Share for Shelters campaign to highlight the bond between people and pets, while benefitting shelters across the country. Like the pet lovers, volunteers, and employees who care for shelter cats and dogs, Bayer is committed to keeping pets happy and healthy. Share photos of pets you love or those in need of adoption with the hashtag #ShareforShelters. Each time #ShareforShelters is used on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook, Bayer will provide $1 to shelters across the country.

Bayer is contributing $30,000 to participating shetlers, and you can help CHS receive part of the contribution. Follow this link to upload your own pet photo and help support our shelter!

Nine Ways to Support the Connecticut Humane Society

  1. Online Donation
Make a one-time or monthly gift to the Connecticut Humane Society and provide food, care and shelter for thousands of homeless animals. Your online gift will also support community outreach programs.  Make a one-time or monthly gift to the Fox Memorial Clinic (designate Fox Clinic on your donation) and sustain the full-service veterinary hospital, providing care for animals with medical needs. Support the Waterford Shelter by purchasing a custom brick for the front walk here.
  2. Send in or drop off a Check
The Connecticut Humane Society administrative offices are located at 701 Russell Road, Newington, CT  06111.
  3. Memorial and Tribute Giving
Give a gift that lasts forever by making a donation in memory of, or in honor of, a loved one, pet, friend or milestone. Your honoree, or their family, will receive a personalized letter acknowledging your gift.
  4. Planned Giving and Estate Planning
Designate a gift to the Connecticut Humane Society in your will and estate plan.  CHS' four-star rating from Charity Navigator is your assurance that a gift to the Society is a sound investment that will yield powerful and lasting results.
  5. Workplace Giving and Corporate Giving
Support the Connecticut Humane Society through workplace giving and corporate matching gifts. Companies can also inquire about co-venture partnerships with CHS. Recycle your office's laser and inkjet cartridges through www.cfktoday.com , click on I'm a business and select CHS to receive your recycle rebate!
  6. Physical Gifts and more
Help the pets by donating pet supplies. De-clutter your home by donating gently used housewares and furniture to the Helping Hands Community Thrift Store and Furniture Bank. Donate your vehicle or vessel! We will arrange pickup of your vehicle and title transfer. Host a party or event to collect cash donations for the pets. Shop & save lives and the pets win!
  7. Donations from your IRA
If you are age 70½ or older, you may be able to use your Required Minimum Distribution for a charitable gift to the Connecticut Humane Society, without paying any tax on the distribution!  The advantage you have as a donor is that the charitable gift satisfies the requirement for a minimum distribution, but it never appears as income nor is it taxed!  Everybody wins (especially the shelter pets!).  Work with your financial planner to process this gift.
  8. Gifts of Stock
A gift of appreciated stock generally offers a two-fold tax advantage: 1) you avoid paying capital gains tax on the increased value of the stock, and 2) you receive an income-tax deduction for the full fair-market value of the stock at the time of the gift. If you have owned stock for more than one year, you qualify for these significant tax advantages. It's easy to make a gift of stock to shelter pets. Ask your broker to contact Barbara Naugle, Director of Development at CHS at 860-594-4502 x6324 or bnaugle@cthumane.org for routing information.
  9. Special Assistance Fund
This fund is available for Fox Memorial Clinic clients in extreme financial need whose pet has experienced a catastrophic illness or accident. Available by application only, this funding further defrays the costs of lifesaving care at the clinic. This program would not be possible without the support of donors. Donate today to help us continue to provide this special program for pets in need.

All gifts are fully tax deductible to the amount allowed by law. A receipt will be provided to you for your tax preparation.
