Westport Volunteer Openings: 

Critter Cuddlers: CT Humane Westport is in need of volunteers to spend time socializing and playing with the small animals (rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, mice, rats, etc.) Some cleaning may be involved. Volunteers that apply for this position must have experience handling small animals, must be at least 18 years old and must be able to work independently. Volunteers must also have active health insurance and be able to commit to a set schedule for a minimum of two hours a week for at least six months. Front Desk Assistant: CT Humane Westport is looking for outgoing, friendly volunteers with excellent customer service skills to assist with coverage at the front desk. Volunteers are specifically needed on Monday mornings and Monday afternoons. Volunteers greet customers and answer basic questions about the adoptions process. Computer skills are a plus. Volunteers that apply for this position must be at least 18 years old and able to work independently. Volunteers must also have active health insurance and must be able to commit to 2-3 hours a week for at least 6 months on a set schedule.To apply for this position, please complete the Westport Volunteer Application.

Foster Care: CT Humane Westport is in need of experienced pet owners that can foster dogs or cats in their own home until they are ready for adoption. Training and supplies will be provided. For more information about getting involved and to complete a Foster Care application, please visit the Foster Care section of the website.

Newington Volunteer Openings:

Foster Care: CT Humane Newington is in need of experienced dog owners that can foster adult dogs in their own home until they are ready for adoption. We especially need families that are experienced in owning large-breed dogs (ex. Great Danes, Shepherds, Weimaraners, Rottweilers), and have experience with dog training and teaching house manners. For more information about getting involved and to complete a Foster Care application, please visit the Foster Care section of the website.

Waterford Volunteer Openings:

Foster Care: CT Humane Waterford is in need of volunteers that can foster animals in their own home until they are ready for adoption. They are especially in need of families that can take underage kittens, pregnant cats, and mother cats with litters of kittens. For more information about getting involved and to complete a Foster Care application, please visit the Foster Care section of the website.  

Biological Risk Management: CT Humane Waterford is looking for volunteers to join the Biological Risk Management (BRM) team. These volunteers help control the spread of harmful diseases by working to keep the building clean and disinfected. Duties may include cleaning cat cages or dog kennels, sweeping, washing floors and walls, etc. Volunteers are specifically  needed 8:30AM-11:30AM on Sundays,  Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and from 10:30AM-1:30PM on Wednesdays. Please state the exact day and time you are applying for on your application. Volunteers that apply for this position must be at least 18 years old, must be able to work independently with limited supervision, and must be comfortable working around both dogs and cats. Volunteers must also have active health insurance and be able to commit to one shift per week for a minimum of six months. Dog Walkers: Love dogs? CT Humane Waterford is looking for experienced dog walkers to join the volunteer team. Safety training is provided. Dog walkers are needed 9:30AM-11:30AM on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays and from 3:00PM-5:00 PM on Sundays and Tuesdays. Volunteers are also needed on Wednesdays from 10:30-12:30. Please state the shift you are applying for on your application. Volunteers that apply for this position must be comfortable working around all breeds and sizes of dogs, must be at least 18 years old and able to work independently, and must have active health insurance. Volunteers must also be able to commit to at least one shift per week for a minimum of six months. To apply for this position, please complete the Waterford Volunteer Application.

Cat Cuddlers:  CT Humane Waterford is in need of experienced cat lovers to join the volunteer team. Volunteers provide socialization and exercise for cats that are waiting to be adopted. Volunteers are specifically needed from 9:30AM-11:30AM on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and from 3:00PM-5:00PM on Mondays. Please state the exact shift you are applying for on your application. Volunteers that apply for this position must be at least 18 years old and be able to work independently. Volunteers must also have active health insurance and be able to commit to one shift per week for a minimum of six months. Animal Enrichment: CT Humane Waterford is looking for one volunteer to join the Animal Enrichment team. This opening is for Sundays from 10AM-12PM. Enrichment volunteers provide mental stimulation for the animals to keep their minds busy while they await adoption. Duties include filling kong toys and distributing them to the dogs and cats, handing out puzzle toys, performing training drills, utilizing scented sprays, and more. Volunteers that apply for this position must be at least 18 years old and able to work independently with limited supervision. Volunteers must also have active health insurance and be able to commit to one shift per week for a minimum of six months. Certified Dog Trainers: CT Humane Waterford is in need of volunteers that have dog training certification. Volunteers will teach the dogs their basic manners prior to adoption using positive reinforcement methods. Volunteers that apply for this position must be able to work a set weekly schedule for a minimum of two hours per week for at least six months. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, have health insurance, be able to work independently, and must be comfortable working around all breeds and sizes of dogs.
