Foster a Pet
Are you an experienced pet owner with room in your heart and home for needy animals? Become a Connecticut Humane Society Foster Care volunteer today!
As a foster volunteer you will temporarily care for animals in your own home until they are ready for adoption. You will provide individualized care for some of our most needy animals, including those that are sick, injured, too young for adoption, or those in need of extra socialization or training.
We provide all the supplies you will need during the foster period, and will handle all medical care of foster pets.
Basic requirements to become a foster care volunteer:
How do you get started?
Step One: Learn more about fostering pets by reading the Frequently Asked Questions about Foster Care
Step Two: Complete the Foster Care application for the CT Humane location closest to you and submit a photo of the area in your home where you will be housing your foster pet. Once you submit the application, you will be prompted to submit a photo by e-mail.
CT Humane Newington is not accepting new foster applications at this time.Westport Foster Care Application CT Humane Westport is accepting applications for volunteers who can foster adult dogs, adult cats, and large-breed dogs with puppies.
Step Three: Selected applicants will be invited in for a volunteer interview. This is a chance for us to get to know you, and for you to learn more about the foster care program. The interview helps us both to determine if the program is a good fit.
Step Four: Attend a general orientation and foster care training. The orientation acquaints you with the organization so that you have a broad understanding of how we achieve the mission. At the orientation you will be given a Volunteer Handbook, and will be asked to sign the liability waiver. The foster care training will cover everything you need to know about fostering pets in your own home.
Step Five: Get started! Once you have completed these important steps to becoming a foster volunteer, you will be added to the official volunteer roster and will be able to foster your first assignment! Although we ask that you commit to a minimum of 6 months, many volunteers stay with us for much longer!
