Volunteer Opportunities, Newington

Read below to learn about current volunteer openings at the Newington Pet Wellness and Adoption Center and the requirements for each position. If you see a position that meets your interests and availability, complete the online volunteer application. Selected applicants will be invited in for an interview.

Note: You must be 18 or older to volunteer. Students under 18 can get involved and earn service credits by completing a service project.

 Biological Risk Management

The Newington adoption center needs volunteers to join the Biological Risk Management (BRM) team. BRM volunteers help control the spread of harmful diseases by working to keep the building clean and disinfected. Duties may include cleaning cat cages or dog kennels, sweeping, washing floors and walls, etc.

Requirements: 18+, have active health insurance, comfortable working around all types of animals, be in good physical condition, able to work independently with limited supervision.

Commitment: 2 hours per week on a set-schedule for at least 6 months

Mondays 8:00AM-10:00AM
Tuesdays 8:00AM-10:00AM
Thursdays 8:00AM-10:00AM
Thursdays 3:30PM-5:30PM
Fridays 8:00AM-10:00AM
Fridays 3:00PM-5:00PM
Sundays 2:00PM-5:00PM 


  

Adoption Desk Assistants 

The Newington adoption center is looking for friendly volunteers with excellent customer service skills to assist at the front desk. Desk volunteers greet customers, answer basic questions about the adoption process and utilize the animal database to look up and record information. .

Requirements: 18+, have active health insurance, comfortable working around all types of animals, able to work independently with limited supervision. Excellent customer service, computer and phone skills.

Commitment: 2 hours per week on a set-schedule for at least 6 months

Open Shifts:
Fridays 9:30-12:30
Saturdays 3:30-5:30


  

Laundry Room Assistants 

The Newington adoption center is looking for reliable volunteers to assist in our busy laundry room. Volunteers wash and fold pet bedding and clean and disinfect dishes, toys and other pet items utilizing a commercial dishwasher. Volunteers play a vital role in cutting down on the spread of illness by making sure all items are clean and sanitary.  

Requirements: 18+, have active health insurance, be in  good physical condition.

Commitment: 3 hours per week on a set-schedule for at least 6 months

Open Shifts:
Fridays 2:00-5:00


  

Pet Videographers

Got technical skills? The Newington adoption center is looking for experienced videographers to film short video clips of the animals to be used online on their adoption profiles. Volunteers will work on site for a couple of hours each week, then will edit and upload videos from home.

Requirements: 18+, have active health insurance, comfortable working around all types of animals, be in good physical condition, able to work independently with limited supervision, own video camera (no cell phones or tablets), editing software, and experience uploading videos to the internet.

Commitment: 2 hours on-site per week on a set-schedule plus 1-2 hours per week working from home for at least 6 months
