More than 950 pets found loving families through the Connecticut Humane Society’s Westport branch in 2016. And 665 Fairfield County residents completed their families by adopting an animal in need. Meanwhile, 107 pets from municipal animal shelters in the area received free veterinary care from CHS.
And irresistible puppy faces helped CHS win a $200 prize when the foundation held a photo contest on Facebook for nonprofits participating in Giving Day. CHS earned the third highest amount of “likes” for a photo of CHS puppies being chauffeured down the hallway to the grooming room’s bath tub in a red grocery cart (an out-of-the-ordinary, but surely efficient, mode of transportation at CHS!). The snapshot garnered over 800 likes—and had everyone wishing their own grocery cart looked like this one!
The Giving Day donations will fund general care as well as spays, neuters, vaccinations, urgent surgeries and other veterinary treatment for pets waiting for homes at CHS Westport, and assist animals at nearby municipal shelters who come to CHS for medical care and adoption services.
CHS will also be joining the Connecticut Community Foundation’s Give Local event, which will fundraise online for nonprofits in a 36-hour span on April 25-26, and the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven’s Great Give, which lasts online for 36 hours from May 2-3.
