Persia Finds Reasons to Smile Again

Persia needed a reason to smile again. At 12 years old, the brindle-colored pup was starting over and looking for her new love.

She’d lost her home. Her bed and toys were gone. Worst of all, she no longer had the love of a family. Persia felt empty inside.

When she arrived at the Connecticut Humane Society, it was time to fill her up again—with love, nutritious food, and the confidence she’d soon find the home that needed her. As staff and volunteers comforted her with gentle pets and kind words, Persia began to feel less alone.

While this terrier mix was surely going to get an extra dose of TLC during her stay, she was also going to receive treatment for her urgent medical needs. A golf-ball-sized mass on her neck needed to be surgically removed, and arthritis was waging battles on her joints. Plus, she had a urinary tract infection.

Over the next several weeks, CHS’ staff medical team treated each ailment, earning Persia’s trust and gratitude along the way. The senior pooch grew happy to give affection right back to her caregivers. She melted the hearts of everyone she met—Persia was a true love bug. A volunteer who became a big fan of Persia’s even donated a gift card to a local pet store and a crate that would be sent home with the pup’s future family.

Persia knew she was well cared for with her new friends at CHS, but she deserved the security of a forever home that would cherish her for her remaining years. She was ready to fall in love with a new family.

When those new family members came along, it was love at first sight. As they knelt down to pet her, Persia planted kisses on her mom’s face. They made Persia feel whole again, and she made their family complete.

She might be a senior, but Persia’s new parents say she is as curious as a puppy and quite the little celebrity in her new family; her social calendar filled up right away with relatives who couldn’t wait to meet her. She got a brand new doggie bed and visited the pet store to pick some toys soon after going home.

And she’s also sporting an ear-to-ear grin these days. Persia’s found a million reasons to smile again.
