2017 Volunteer Service Statistics

 

Volunteers at the Connecticut Humane Society keep tails wagging 365 days a year, whether they’re walking dogs, cuddling cats, keeping pets company after surgery, promoting adoption in the community, or fostering critters at home. Here’s a look at the tremendous difference they made in 2017. Meet the volunteers celebrating anniversaries this year.
  
   


 

 

 

491 … volunteers devoted time to serving pets in need at CHS.



   


 

 

25,673 … volunteer hours were spent at CHS—not counting all the time spent at home caring for foster pets!


   

 

 


189 … foster homes cared for CHS pets.


   

 



964 … pets (everyone from dogs and cats, to rabbits and rats!) were fostered in volunteers’ homes while they still needed mama, had to be bottle fed, were learning manners, gained confidence and social skills, or recovered from medical treatment.





 

 


 

46 … orphaned, infant pets were bottle fed in foster homes around the clock to get them big and strong enough to eat on their own.


          

 



8,424 … miles were trekked by volunteers walking CHS dogs.

               


     


      

 


4,038 … hours were spent cuddling, brushing, playing with and socializing cats.


 

 

 

 

 

21,996 … loads of food, dishes and toys were washed so they were clean and ready for the next pets who needed them.


 

 

 

1,794 … hours were spent washing linens, cushy beds, fleece blankets and other laundry so pets could be comfortable for their stay at CHS.
