Honoring Waterford Volunteer Kristina Oschmann

Just think of Kristina Oschmann as the toy fairy. She makes and hands out the pets’ favorite things—from food-stuffed Kongs, to puzzle toys holding treats and squeaky toys!

She has been an enrichment volunteer for the Connecticut Humane Society’s Waterford location since March 2017. The enrichment team ensures pets are happy during their stay. Sometimes that means exercising their brains with toys that get them thinking, and sometimes it means keeping them physically active with training drills.

Kristina spends her days working in a local museum, and since art is a form of mental stimulation, she thought that she would carry over her experience into the animal world. Kristina believes in CHS’ mission and thought that she would be able to help the animals in our care until they could find their new, loving families.

At home, Kristina currently has a Lab named Bella, and she hopes to soon be a foster parent to pets in need. She already helps out with the laundry and Biological Risk Management cleaning tasks at CHS during her Sunday shift.

Kristina said she can definitely see a difference in the pets’ demeanor from week to week thanks to the care and enrichment that they receive at CHS, and that is what’s most gratifying for her.
